The 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin is available to you online today for purchase from Buy Gold and Silver Safely. Coin Highlights:
American Silver Eagle coins, like other major bullion programs from the US Mint, feature an iconic American coin design. Adolph A. Weinman won a US Mint-sponsored contest in 1916 for a new design for the nation’s 50-cent piece. As it happens, Weinman also won the contest for a new design for the nation’s 10-cent piece. Walking Liberty, as the design is known, appeared on the US 50-cent piece from 1916 to 1947, eventually replaced for a short period by the effigy of Benjamin Franklin. The Walking Liberty design is considered one of America’s greatest coin designs of all time, just behind Lady Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. On the obverse of the 1 oz American Silver Eagle coins is the depiction of Walking Liberty created by Weinman. It features Liberty as she strides toward the setting sun, one hand outstretched as she walks toward an ever-brighter future. In her left hand she holds oak branches denoting America’s civic successes, while the American flag is draped over her shoulders. The reverse of all American Silver Eagles features the heraldic eagle of the United States. First designed and used on American coinage in 1794, this image is a refined 20th century design by former US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. Completed in 1986 for the Silver Eagle, it depicts the bald eagle behind the national shield. 13 stars above its head honor the original colonies, while the olive branch of peace and arrows of war are clutched in its talons.
