The Gold Kangaroo Coin has gradually become one of the most sought after gold bullion coins on the planet. The series dates back to 1986, however it was not until 1989 that the Perth Mint officially named the series the gold kangaroo series. It was initially known as the Gold Nugget Coin series. Originally a branch of the British Royal Mint, the Perth Mint was founded in 1899. It was not until 1970 that control of the mint was handed over to the state government of Western Australia. Since then, the Perth Mint has been the source of several coin series prominent among collectors and investors alike including the Gold Kangaroo Coins. The 2021 1 oz Gold Kangaroo features the Queen Elizabeth II side profile created by artist Jody Clark. The words “ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA” as well as the numerical denomination of “100 DOLLARS” are engraved along the border of the gold kangaroo’s obverse. Furthermore, the letters “JC” can be seen on Her Majesty’s portrait, being the designer’s initials. The reverse of the new Australian Gold Kangaroo features a brand new design. The 2021 Gold Kangaroo displays an adult kangaroo up close in the Australian wilderness with two Waratah flowers behind the marsupial. Surrounding the image on the coin’s reverse are the words “AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO” along with “2021 1oz 9999 GOLD”. The “P” mint mark of the Perth Mint can also be seen on this face of the coin.
